Refugee Cities

“By scaling our previous work into a permanent urban ecosystem, and working alongside Bjarke Ingels Group, our philanthropic supporters and our investment partners, we are shifting the global paradigm from temporary relief to long-term economic empowerment. We are showing the world that refugees and vulnerable people deserve beautiful buildings that win prizes, that could be anywhere in the world. If you bring infrastructure and a platform to talent, talent can thrive.” – Nachson Mimran

Driven by a deep commitment to supporting the world’s most vulnerable populations, Nachson Mimran’s 2017 experience in a refugee settlement exposed a critical structural gap: millions living in ‘temporary’ global camps were denied the essential infrastructure needed to unlock their economic, creative, and human potential. Following years of testing creative infrastructure prototypes – most notably the multi-award-winning Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre in Uganda – Nachson brought together a world-class network of collaborators to launch Refugee Cities. As the mastermind of this ambitious moonshot – in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels and featured in Wallpaper* Magazine – Nachson is redefining humanitarian action by transitioning away from traditional aid to a sustainable, investor-led model, and building permanent platforms where displaced talent can truly thrive.
